नमामीशमीशान निर्वाण-रूपं
विभुं व्यापकं ब्रह्म वेद-स्वरूपं
निजं निर्गुणं निर्विकल्पं निरीहं
चिदाकाशमाकाशवासं भजे- अहं १.
निराकारामोंकार मूलं तुरीयं
गिराज्ञान गोतीतमीशं गिरीशं
करालं महाकाल कालं कृपालं
गुणागार संसारपारं नतो-अहं २.
तुषाराद्रि संकाश गौरं गभीरं
मनोभूत कोटि प्रभा श्री शरीरं
स्फुरन्मौलि कल्लोलिनी चारु गंगा
लसद्भालबालेन्दु कंठे भुजंगा ३.
चलत्कुन्डलं भ्रू सुनेत्रं विशालं
प्रसन्नाननं नीलकंठं दयालं
मृगाधीशचर्माम्बरं मुन्डमालं
प्रियं शंकरं सर्वनाथं भजामि ४.
प्रचंडं प्रकृष्टं प्रगल्भं परेशं
अखंडं अजं भानुकोटिप्रकाशं
त्रय: शूल निर्मूलनं शूल-पाणिं
भजे-अहं भवानीपतिं भावगम्यं ५.
कलातीत कल्याण कल्पान्तकारी
सदा सज्जनानंददाता पुरारी
चिदानंद संदोह मोहापहारी
प्रसीद प्रसीद प्रभो मन्मथारी ६.
न यावत् उमानाथ पादारविन्दं
भजंतीह लोके परे वा नराणां
न तावत्सुखं शान्ति सन्तापनाशं
प्रसीद प्रभो सर्व-भूताधिवासं ७.
न जानामि योगं जपं नैव पूजां
नतो-अहं सदा सर्वदा शम्भु तुभ्यं
जरा जन्म दु:खौघ तातप्यमानं
प्रभो पाहि आपन्नमामीश शम्भो ८.
रुद्राष्टकम् इदं प्रोक्तं विप्रेण हरतोषये
ये पठन्ति नरा भक्त्या तेषां शंभु: प्रसीदति ९.

Nama'mi - I bow to, pay reverence to, (To Thee, Who Art)
I'sham - The God.
I'sha'n - O (LORD) Shankar !
Nirwa'n'-ru'pam - The Form of such a one, who has transcended all the worldly bondages.
Vibhum - The all-pervading,
Vya'pakam - The Omnipresent,
Brahma - ALL and Everything, (the Brahman)
Vedaswaru'pam - The essence of Veda
Nijam - One's very own, most intimate.
Nirgun'am - Who is not confined to attributes, Free.
Nirvikalpam - The One Who is changeless, Absolute.
Niri'ham - To the One, Who is Free from desire.
chida'ka'sham-a'ka'sh-wa'sam - The One Who dwells in the Hearts, i.e. "The Knowing-Space", of All Beings as "Intelligence / Conscious-ness".
Bhaje-aham- I share with, I adore, devote (Him).... ...... ...... (1)
Nira'ka'ram - (To Thee, That Art) Formless,
Ongka'ra-mu'lam - Ground and Source of the All Existence, i. e. ॐ ।
Turi'yam - The Fourth, Transcending the three states, (viz. : Waking, Dream, and the Deep Sleep).
Gira' - Speech.
Gna'n - (Relative) Knowledge.
Go - The senses.
Ati't - beyond (their capacity of knowing).
Giri'sham - The One Who is The Lord of the Mountain Kaila's.
Kara'lam - Stupendous, रौद्र .
Maha'ka'l-Ka'lam - Beyond death.
Gun'a'ga'r - (O Thee, !) The Reservior of All the virtues.
Sansa'ra-paaram - One who releases us from the mortal world .
Nato-aham - I bow to Thee ! .... ...... ...... ..... ... (2)
Tush'a'r-adri - The Hima'laya's, (The Mountan of Ice).
Sanka'sh - Like of the colour / complexion.
Gauram - Fair, Clear white.
Gabhi'ram - Serene, Calm,Deep.
Manobhu't-kot'i-Prabha'-Shri'-Shari'ram - One with a body, Whose Radiance surpasses that of the tens of millions of Ka'mDevas.
Sphuran-mauli-kallolini'-Cha'ru-Ganga'- One, having The Ganges River Wavering Through The Locks.
Lasad-bha'l-Ba'lendu - And The playful new-moon adorns The Forehead.
Kant'he- Bhujanga'- And the serpents embracing the neck..... ..... (3)
Chalt-Kund'alam- the shaking ear-rinds,
Bhru'-Sunetram-Visha'lam - On the Forehead a magnificent Third Eye,
Prasanna'nanam - A pleasant, smiling Countenance.
Neelakant'ham - The Blue Neck (on account of Consuming the Hala'hal poison that came-out when Devas and Daityas churned the Ocean, and as it could destroy the whole world, The Lord kept it in the neck.)
Daya'lam - Compassionate.
Mriega'dhi'sh-Charma'mbaram - Clad in The Tiger / Lion-Skin.
Mund'ama'lam - Wearing a garland made of skulls.(Shiva is the destroyer of the 'egos')
Priyam - The One most Dear.
Shankaram - Shankara (Shiv's name, meaning One who gives peace).
Sarvana'tham - The Master of All.
Bhaja'mi - (I) worship. .... ...... ...... ...... ...... .... (4)
Prachand'am - Valorous.
Prakriesht'am - Excellant.
Pragalbham - Noble.
Paresham - The Supreme Lord.
Akhand'am - Whole, without division.
Ajam - Birthless, Never born.
Bha'nukot'i-prakasham - Like The Light of Tens of millions of Suns.
Trayah - The three
Shool - Severe pain, miseries, (Bodily, mental, spiritual) .
Nirmu'lanam - One Who eradicates, removes.
Shu'lapa'n'im - Having Trident in One's hand.
Bhaje-aham - (I) worship,
Bhawa'ni'patim - The Lord of The Universal Mother (Pa'rvati).
Bhavagamyam - Who can be reached through Devotion.... .... ..... ...(5)
Kala'ti't a- Indivisible.
Kalya'na - Auspicious, Propitious.
Kalpa'ntaka'ri' - One Who puts an end to the "Prapancha" i.e. illusion of the world.
Sada' - Ever, Always.
Sajjana-A'nanda-Da'ta' -Always giving Joy to the good, gentle people.
Pura'ri' - One Who destroyed The Demon Tripra'sur.(Enemy of That Asur / Demon).
Chid-A'nanda - The Nature of the Aggregate Happiness of The Conscious-ness of the Being.
Prasi'da-Prasi'da - Kindly be Gracious to please upon me.
Prabho - Oh My Lord !
Manmatha'ri' - The Enemy of "Ka'madeva"..... ..... ..... ...... ...... ...(6).
Na Ya'wad - Until and Unless.
Uma'na'th - The Lord Shiva, The Lord of Uma' (Pa'rvati').
Pa'da'ravindam - The Lotus Feet .
Bhajanti - Only (then,) when the people worship (the lotus Feet of the Lord).
ih - loke -pare - wa' - In this life or in the next-one,
Nara'n'a'm - they (people)
Na Ta'wat - Not before that .
Sukham - Sha'nti - Santa'p-nasham - (Will they acquire) Happiness, Peace, and the Ending of Sorrow.
Prasi'd - Kindly Be Gracious to please ,
Prabho - O Lord (Thee)!
Sarva-Bhu'ta'dhiva'sam - Who Live in the hearts of All the Beings ! ..... ....(7)
Na Ja'na'mi - (I) know not.
Yogam - Yoga.
Japam - Japa. (Repetition Of God's name or Mantra).
Na-eva - And neither,
Pu'ja'm - The proper method of worship. But,
Nato-Aham - I am ever bowing ,
Sada'- Sarvada' - Ever and Always
Shambhu - O Shambhu !
Tubhyam - Before Thee.
Jara' - Janma - Duhkha-Ogh -Under the High Tides of the Afflictions of Old Age, Birth, (And Rebirth) and Sorrows.
Ta'tapyama'nam - (I am ) Tormented.
Prabho - O God !
Pa'hi - Save (me)
A'pan - From this Calamity,
Nama'mi - (I) beg, bow, pray unto Thee !
I'sh- Shambho ! - O Lrd Shambhu ! ..... ....... ............. ...(8)

Proktam - has been Narrated (recited)by.
Vipren'a - A Sage, One who knows "Brahman".
Hara-tosh'aye - For propitiating The Lord "Hara" i.e. Shiva.
Ye - Those Who.
Pat'hanti - study, recite it.
Nara' - Human Beings.
Bhaktya' - with Devotion.
Tesh'a'm - To them.
Shambhuh - Shambhu (Bhagawa'n Shiva)
Prasi'dati - Becomes Gracious.
